Kia ora whānau
This week we distributed copies of Word from Marsden, our annual school magazine showcasing some of the highlights from the past year. The theme of this year's magazine is 'E rere te huata, kapohia!' or 'Making the most of every opportunity'. We also have shared the magazine with you digitally to enable you to flip through its pages online and share with family and friends near and far should you wish. As you browse through its pages, I am sure you will agree that Marsden students, and our impressive alumnae, continue to seize opportunities with a wide variety of wonderful involvements and stunning achievements. Enjoy!

Our senior students are currently seizing the opportunity to engage with external examinations as NCEA kicks in with earnest. There is a fascinating dynamic that presents at Marsden during examination season. There is a real sense that our students, also naturally exhibiting some nerves pre-exam, are ready to embrace the chance to confidently bring their learning and their developed critical thinking skills to the opportunity. I wish all of our candidates the very best throughout their examination season and encourage them to have every confidence in their preparedness to do their very best. Eat well, take some exercise and get plenty of rest too.

It is important to note that our preschoolers, primary and middle school students remain very much in the middle of Term 4 with four weeks of school remaining. In that time there are some end of year activities, however, there remains much room for engagement with rigorous teaching and learning and ample opportunities to continue to bring one’s best in all number of pursuits. The social dynamic does shift in the Upper School with our seniors on examination leave, and we are eager that our middle schoolers set the tone with mature, thoughtful behaviour and seize the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership potential in all they say and do. We know that once an expectation is set, our students have little difficulty in living up to what is expected of them. Ka rawe.

Marsden students had a strong showing at last weekend’s College Sport Wellington (CSW) annual sports awards dinner at Te Rauparaha Arena. With a number of nominees across a variety of categories, we celebrate Underwater Hockey Sportswoman of the Year, Liliana O’Connell. Additionally, we were proud to have representatives Sofia George, Futsal, and Macy Mahoney-Studd, Water Polo, accept Pennants for winning CSW titles on behalf of their respective teams. Congratulations one and all, a sports season where once again Marsden students equipped themselves incredibly well with our small yet mighty school demonstrating we can more than foot it with the best.
