Primary attend Dissolution of Parliament
Tuesday, 12 September 2023
Years 4 and 5 students attended the 53rd Dissolution of Parliament as part of their Governance Inquiry. Occurring every three years at the end of each Parliamentary term, the NZ Herald of Arms Extraordinary to The King reads a proclamation signed by the Governor-General on the steps of Parliament.

Following this, students toured Parliament, learning about the specific roles and positions within the Government, visiting the Beehive, Debating Chamber and the Legislative Council Chamber.

Here's some fun facts our students learned:

“It was interesting to see where the MPs sit within the Debating Chamber and learn how laws are made.”

“Did you know the King is allowed in Parliament but cannot go inside the Debating Chamber?”

“The more important your position as an MP, the higher up your office is in the Beehive.”
