Judy Bellingham receives this award in recognition of her contribution to singing both as a teacher and performer for more than 50 years. She is the William Evans Associate Professor of Voice at Otago University. She has been involved nationally through Youth Choirs, the Big Sing and the New Zealand Singing School, while on a local level she has been involved with the Dunedin Performing Arts, the Dunedin Arts Festival and the Otago Branch of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation. Her performances have taken to stages throughout the world including such diverse places as Libya. She has commissioned works, run workshops at international conferences and has several publications.

Judy has championed New Zealand music, challenging society to give it a place beside sport as performers, creators and in appreciation."In a world where conformity breeds acceptance, I urge you not to be afraid to be different, to be a tall poppy".1
