For students interested in studying Medicine or Dentistry in Australia Students planning to study medicine or dentistry IN AUSTRALIA in 2026 will need to complete the UCAT this year. If you are planning to study medicine in New Zealand you do not sit UCAT until next year in your first year at university. You do not require UCAT to study dentistry in New Zealand. This organisation (based in Australia) is offering the following preparation courses for UCAT. Be aware Year 12 in Australia is the equivalent to Year 13 in New Zealand and these courses are NOT free. Undergraduate Open Days Bookings for the Virtual Open Days are now open. Online events are taking place between 1 April - 30 May 2025. These events will provide information about admissions, funding, accommodation, and student life at UCL. Academic departments will also be running subject specific sessions, providing a great way for students to learn more about course content, entry requirements and graduate destinations. UCL will require several admissions tests administered by UAT-UK in the 2026 admissions cycle: the ESAT, the TMUA and the TARA (a new admissions test for 2026 entry). Individual prospectus entries detail which UCL courses require tests, and I will share more detailed information in a future newsletter. In the meantime, please visit the UAT-UK website for details of the ESAT, TMUA and TARA tests. AFS scholarship- AFS Global STEM Changemakers Programme 2 May-26 July 2025 This unique full-scholarship, intercultural exchange program for teens (ages 15-17.5) fosters transformative learning experiences through STEM, global competence, and positive social impact. 50 scholarship winners will participate in an immersive 12-week virtual exchange programme focused on sustainability, intercultural skills, and social impact, co-developed with the University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy. Scholars will enrich their STEM knowledge and skills through an interactive curriculum, while developing critical global competencies, including problem-solving, analytical skills, and intercultural understanding. The programme culminates with social impact capstone presentations that offer potential solutions to real-world challenges, including climate change and the energy transition. A minimum of 20% of scholarship spots are earmarked for students from Aboriginal, Māori, Torres Strait Islander, Pasifika, and Indigenous communities, as well as refugees and displaced students. The full expo will be run on Sunday as well as Monday so hopefully this gives you more flexibility to plan your itinerary.
Travel Arrangements Book any flights, rental cars, and accommodation early to ensure you get the best deals. This year, there have been extra flights to Dunedin added to assist with the large number of attendees.
Open Days App The Open Days app will be ready to download before the event. Users will need to register to personalise their app and make the most of its features on the day. You can sign up for updates on the Open Days webpage here to be notified when it's available.
Parking Parking for buses and shuttles will be available at the Forsyth Barr Stadium – an easy 10-minute walk to main campus. Traffic Management will be there to assist on the day. They will send out a Parking Map in due course.

Canterbury University Information Events The university is holding information evenings on June 10 at the Lower Hutt Events Centre from 6.00pm- 8.30pm and on June 11 at the Michael Fowler Events Centre from 6.00pm- 8.30. New Zealand Defence Careers They hold Defence Careers Information evenings throughout the year at 6.00pm at the Defence Careers office at 34 Waione Street, Petone, Lower Hutt. The upcoming dates are 15 April and 29 May . Note 15 April is in the school holidays. Taster programmes- Whitireia and Weltec Interested in exploring a particular trade or interest? Please take a look at the taster schedule for 2025 and let Ms Binns know if there are any courses there that you would like to attend.The school needs to complete the enrolment on your behalf and we would require parental permission. Student Leaders Camps The Pacific Leaders Academy is an Australian based organisation that host leadership camps in various locations throughout the Pacific for 16-18 year old students from Australia and New Zealand. (Students in Years 12 and 13 in NZ) This year they have camps in Vanuatu, Samoa, Cook Islands and Fiji with some during the school holidays. They are one week in length. These camps can also be used for accreditation toward the Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Gold award. For more information please see here. Summer Schools - Oxford Royale These courses are held in the Northern hemisphere Summer in England and New York and some coincide with our July school holidays. UNIREADY UniReady is a series of free, open entry, self-paced, fully online learning micro-credentials which cover the essential skills and knowledge students need to get ready for their first semester of undergraduate study. These courses are open to senior students intending to commence university study. Registrations open from Monday 28 October. Gresham College Lecture Series One of our old girls, Maria English, has shared this information with the school as she felt students looking to explore ideas and extend their thinking might enjoy these lectures. Gresham College (London) provides outstanding educational talks for the public free of charge, as we have been doing for 420 years.
