Lara Strong - Musical Theatre - Student from 2013-2017
Wednesday, 2 November 2022
Lara's passion for performing arts started at age 5, and her love of musical theatre began at Marsden when she played Gabriella in the school production of High School Musical in 2015 and Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar in 2017. She also took singing lessons with Megan Corby at school from 2014 onwards.

Lara was awarded Colours in Dance, Drama and Music at school, along with the Sophie Evans Cup for Performing Arts. Outside of school, Lara actively sought out any opportunity she possibly could to gain experience. She was involved with many productions at Tarrant Dance Studios, including dancing the lead in Coppélia, The Nutcracker, Les Sylphides and more.

In 2017, Lara auditioned for the Long Cloud Youth Theatre Company, where she performed in four shows. In 2018, she had a lead role in the Short Film Maunga, which is currently being submitted to international film festivals and in 2019 Lara performed live as a soloist at the Chinese New Year celebrations in Wellington.

In 2020, Lara began studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Musical Theatre at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. At AMDA, her days are packed with a range of classes including Musical Theatre, Acting, Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Theatre Dance, Voice Production and Speech, Individual Voice Training, Musical Theatre film lab and Sight Singing.

Lara played the role of Young Audrey and was also the understudy to Audrey in an off-Broadway show, Audrey: The New Musical in 2022.

During this time, Lara has learnt a lot about herself as a professional in this industry and feels that being a New Zealander does help her to stand out from the crowd. Lara is happy to be contacted to answer questions or give advice on what she is doing.
