Amy Harrison and Old Girl Penny Thompson spoke at assembly today to share their journey from school to their current career paths. Both left Marsden unsure of what they wanted to study, but they learned important things about themselves and the world in the process and now have careers they love. Amy spoke to us about the benefits of university and how it can challenge you in ways you might not expect, but that perceiving the world differently from how you’ve always done is part of what university is all about. She is now a policy advisor at MBIE. Penny is a personal trainer who has created HERA, a small group programme to educate and empower young women to lift weights confidently, safely, and for a lifetime. She spoke to us about the joys and challenges of being self-employed, working with people to achieve and exceed their goals and why it can be good to think outside the box when it comes to your career goals.
